When we last left the acclaimed Apple TV comedy, Alice (Lukita Maxwell) has graduated high school, Randy (Jeff Daniels) ditched the ceremony and disappointed his son, Liz (Christa Miller) and Derek (Ted McGinley) were excited about becoming “young grandparents,” Sean (Luke Tennie) had a new job on the horizon, Brian (Michael Urie) was headed to Tennessee, and Jimmy (Jason Segel) and Paul (Harrison Ford) were casually ripping our hearts out!

Will There Be A Shrinking Season 4 On Apple TV? Or Is Shrinking Ending?
On Tuesday, January 27, hours before Shrinking Season 3’s supersized premiere was set to stream, Apple TV announced a rare, incredibly early Season 4 renewal! Ahead of Season 3’s finale, co-creator Bill Lawrence teased Season 4 on X, writing, “Excited to start completely new story next year. Feels scary/risky/fun.” He also added, “We always pitched a three season story on #Shrinking, grief-forgiveness-moving forward. We wanted to stay true to that and end the way we planned.”
After “new story” sparked some confusion, the Shrinking showrunner explained, “I mean that if we came back Season 4 and Jimmy turned to Brian and said ‘I’ve been thinking about it, and I’m STILL really sad about my wife dying’ we’d stop watching along w everyone else. Time jump. New story. Same gang.”
Is Harrison Ford Leaving Shrinking?
Ahead of Shrinking‘s Season 3 finale, viewers couldn’t help but wonder: Is Harrison Ford leaving Shrinking?! Why? Decider went deep on fan fears and shared our thoughts on Ford’s Shrinking future, but the worries stemmed from the fact that Paul retired and moved to Connecticut in the penultimate episode. If you worried that Shrinking would move forward without Ford, fear not! Lawrence assured everyone that “Same gang” means the “Same EXACT cast next year.”
“He is not leaving the show,” Shrinking‘s co-creator stressed. “He’s not going anywhere. Not an accident that Alice goes to college in Connecticut.”
As noted in a previous piece, the fact that Alice is going to college at Wesleyan University in Connecticut provides tons of bi-costal potential for the series. Will Paul and Alice meet to catch up over delicious CT pizza? Could the Shrinking fam head to the East Coast? (Will Gaby break her vow to never set foot in the boat shoe infested state?!) As a CT resident who knows co-creator Bill Lawrence is from Ridgefield, CT, Season 4’s East Coast possibilities are incredibly exciting to me. We could see Sailboat Paul, and more intimate scenes with Meg, Julie, and his fam. And as Paul teased in an Episode 9 conversation with Gaby, he also wants to hop on Zoom with her for a couple hours first thing each morning to keep in touch. So Shrinking Season 4 could also give us Paul vs Technology. We can’t wait to see what the team has in store. So stay tuned for more updates!
