President Trump on Friday morning gave remarks from the White House to the National Governors Association, as scrutiny mounts over his Ukraine rhetoric.
His comments follow an address before the Republican Governor’s Association on Thursday, where the president put his support behind Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) to succeed Gov. Ron DeSantis (R). The lawmaker, however, has not yet announced a bid.
Notable names seen in the room include Democratic Govs. Josh Shapiro (Pa.), Wes Moore (Md.), Andy Beshear (Ky.), Jared Polis (Colo.) and Kathy Hochul (N.Y.), as well as GOP Govs. Brian Kemp (Ga.), Mike DeWine (Ohio), Sarah Huckabee Sanders (Ark.), Kim Reynolds (Iowa), Mike Braun (Ind.) and DeSantis.
Health and Humans Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, director of national intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Attorney General Pam Bondi, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin were also in attendance.
The speech comes as Washington reels from the Trump administration’s moves to end the war in Ukraine, with the president seemingly leaning closer to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump has placed blame on Ukraine for the nearly three-year-long war and criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for his leadership.
