President Trump is welcoming British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to the White House Thursday afternoon, as the two remain split on support for Ukraine, over three years after Russia’s invasion sparked war in the nation.
The Trump administration has already begun talks with Russian officials on plans to end the conflict in the region, but Ukraine was notably absent from the conversation. A deal between the U.S. and Ukraine on exchanging rare, critical minerals for security guarantees has also entered the spotlight.
Starmer’s visit comes just days after he announced plans to raise the British defense budget, likely a move to persuade the president into maintaining support for Ukraine and the NATO alliance.
The duo also held a bilateral meeting.
