The Senate Judiciary Committee will discuss ways to strengthen the safety of children in the digital space in a hearing set for Wednesday morning.
The event comes as lawmakers seek to build upon the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA), polarizing bipartisan legislation introduced by Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) in the last Congress. Concerns over censorship were in part what caused the bill to die in the House, where Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) declined to bring it to the floor for a vote.
Spokespersons for Blackburn and Blumenthal, who both sit on the committee, have indicated they will work to reintroduce KOSA in the 119th Congress.
A group of leading tech companies has also raised more than $27 million for a new program focused on boosting online safety for kids.
The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10:15 a.m. EST.
