Watch live: NTSB provides update on probe into deadly collision near DCA

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is set to provide an update Friday on its investigation into last month’s collision between an Army Black Hawk helicopter and American Airlines plane outside of Reagan Washington National Airport.

The crash killed all 67 people on board the passenger plane, en route to Washington from Kansas, and the military helicopter. The incident prompted widespread concern over the staffing shortages at the Federal Aviation Administration and what could have been done to prevent the aviation accident from happening.

President Trump has vowed to overhaul the FAA, primarily air traffic control, in the wake of the deadly collision. The president appeared to blame diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs for weakening the agency.

Earlier this month, the agency ruled that helicopters and airplanes would no longer be able to share the airspace above the Potomac River, as questions have been raised over whether the military chopper was flying too high.

The briefing is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. EST.
