Watch live: Jeffries gives remarks after Democratic protests to Trump speech

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) is holding a press conference Thursday morning, days after Democrats showed their disdain for President Trump’s executive actions in various ways during the president’s first address to Congress since returning to office.

Jeffries, speaking to reporters Wednesday, commended the majority of his Democratic colleagues for their decorum the previous night but stopped short of mentioning the protests — from the signs held by several Democrats to mid-speech walk outs to Rep. Al Green’s (D-Texas) disruption and subsequent removal from the chamber.

The presser also comes as a March 14 shutdown deadline inches closer. Democrats have withheld their support from any budget plans while pressing their GOP colleagues for assurances that Trump will use funds in the way they are appropriated.

His remarks are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. EST.
