Leaders within the House Democratic Caucus are set to address their GOP colleagues’ budget blueprint on Tuesday morning, hours ahead of an expected vote on the measure.
While Dems have little power to prevent GOP leaders from advancing President Trump’s legislative priorities, they have gone out of the way to make the process as painful as possible. As Trump has pushed a slew of controversial executive actions during his first month in office, those on the left have threatened to lean on the looming March 14 shutdown deadline as a defense.
Republicans can only afford to lose one party vote if everyone is present. Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) has urged those in the caucus to show up after the House Rules Committee advanced the legislation on Monday.
The press conference is scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m. EST.
