Gov. Ron DeSantis is holding a news conference Thursday morning where he is expected to name a replacement for Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who was tapped by President-elect Trump to lead the State Department.
While several names have been floated, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody has emerged a frontrunner for the position. Other names include Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nunez (R) and the governor’s chief of staff James Uthmeier. DeSantis also spoke with Reps. Kat Cammack (R-Fla.) and Cory Mills (R-Fla.) about the position but raised doubts about plucking a lawmaker from the House amid razor thin GOP margins in the chamber.
The event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EST.
