Howard Lutnick, President Trump’s pick to lead the Commerce Department, will face questioning from the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee Wednesday morning during a confirmation hearing.
Lutnick, who also served as co-chair of the Trump transition team, has publicly embraced the president’s widespread tariff plans.
After taking the oath of office last week, Trump indicated that his administration would impose 25 percent tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada by the end of the month. The president later paused the move, pending an upcoming review of an updated NAFTA deal.
The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. EST.
