CBS appears to be shifting gears with the FBI franchise.
Created by Law & Order‘s Dick Wolf in 2018, FBI follows the high-stakes drama of the FBI’s New York office, featuring a talented unit of agents who take on some of the biggest cases.
Starring Missy Peregrym, Zeeko Zaki and Jeremy Sisto, the series quickly became a tentpole for the network, inspiring two spinoff series with more reportedly on the way.
FBI: Most Wanted, starring Dylan McDermott, instead focuses on the FBI’s Fugitive Task Force, where the agents chase down the most notorious criminals on the Bureau’s Most Wanted list. And FBI: International is the latest iteration of the successful franchise, starring an international unit who travel throughout Europe to neutralize threats against America.
The FBI franchise has become a primetime staple for the network, but recent reports claim there could be some major changes coming to the beloved series. So, which FBI show was canceled? Here’s what we know.
Was FBI canceled?
Variety reports the network has opted to cancel FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International.
Both shows are currently in production, per Deadline, which means the upcoming seasons will serve as the series finales. FBI: Most Wanted will end after six seasons, and FBI: International will end after four.
Deadline notes it remains unclear if the shows will be shopped to other networks. The outlet cites several reasons for the series cancelations, including that the network had to cancel existing drama series to make space for other series renewals.
The network is also reportedly developing another spinoff series, FBI: CIA, which is now in casting negotiations. It’s expected to get a straight-to-series order with the pilot episode to air as an episode of FBI, per Deadline.
FBI will remain on the air. It is now one year into the three-year renewal CBS granted in April 2024, keeping the show on the air until Season 9.
