They got to fly private for an economy-class price.
Two college students experienced VIP treatment on the cheap after a booking anomaly incredibly resulted in them getting a whole Southwest flight to themselves. The pair detailed their accidental fly-rolling adventure in a video with over 4.8 million views on TikTok.
“We were just giddy, like so excited,” Natalie Wolfley, one half of the lucky duo, told Fox 13 Salt Lake City. “We were like we’re VIP. This is our plane.”
She and bestie Savannah Sargent had the “one in a lifetime experience” Friday while flying from Utah to the pair’s home state of Arizona for Sargent’s bridal shower, ABC4.com reported.
While checking their bags at Salt Lake City airport, a Southwest employee had reportedly informed the students that they had a “chartered plane,” which they initially took as a joke.
“We were so confused and we just thought he was kidding because that never happens,” Sargent told ABC4.
However, the traveling companions realized this was the real deal after the worker turned the screen and showed them that “there were only two tickets bought versus the 175 seats on the plane,” she recalled.
Being the only passengers on the flight was surreal for Sargent and Wolfley, who said they got to experience a much more “personal touch” than on your standard commercial trip.
The mile-high rollers were addressed by name during the flight announcements and even got to sit in the cockpit, as seen in the clip.
“I think the coolest part about the experience was just that personal connection that we were able to have with the crew members, with the team, with the pilot,” Wolfley told ABC4.
This was also the first time flying home together for the pair, who both grew up in the Copper State but attend separate schools in Utah.
To sweeten the occasion, the pair reportedly shared a cake from Gourmandise Bakery in Salt Lake, which Sargent traditionally visits every time she flies out of the air hub.
Best of all, without anyone else on board, the VIPs could reportedly talk as loud and for as long as they desired.
“No one’s going to hear us,” Wolfley declared in the clip. “We’re going to be 10,000 feet in the air, yapping away.”
Cash-strapped travelers on TikTok were envious that the pair essentially got to fly private for a commercial price.
“It’s tough watching someone else live your dream,” lamented one, while another wrote, “This would be my fun fact for the rest of time.”
“What a cool pilot!! I bet this will be a memory you think about forever,” fawned a third.
Big brands also weighed in on the experience. “Obsessed with the pure joy they had saying ‘Savannah and Natalie’ every announcement,” wrote Visa’s official TikTok account.
Zillow also chimed in, exclaiming, “This is ICONIC. The cakes like?? Congratulations!”
“Savannah & Natalie welcome onboard,” declared Southwest’s handle, to which Wolfley replied, “Southwest!!! Hi!! We love you!!!”
The budget carrier has since reached out to the besties, who reportedly joked that Sargent and her fiancé would require a similar arrangement for their honeymoon flight.
