Turner announces DOGE task force at HUD

Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner announced that there will be a Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) task force within the agency to eliminate department spending.

“I’m happy to announce the DOGE task force here at HUD,” Turner said in a video posted to the social platform X. “We will be very detailed and deliberate about every dollar spent in serving tribal, rural and urban communities across America.”

Turner, who was confirmed by the Senate last week, celebrated President Trump’s cost-cutting agenda and said HUD will be slashing its budget by finding areas where previous spending was wasteful.

“We’ve already identified $260 million in savings and still have much more to accomplish,” he said.

The announcement comes as Elon Musk’s DOGE has begun to asses where in the federal government costs can be reduced. The actions have been sharply criticized by Democrats who say the unelected tech billionaire is overreaching and prompted several lawsuits.

At the Treasury Department, DOGE officials gained access to the federal payment system, which oversees $6 trillion annually and involves Social Security and Americans’ tax records. The department was sued by a coalition of groups about DOGE having access to the system.

As groups try to catch up to the quick changes seen from DOGE, Democrats in Congress are attempting to highlight what they see as illegal action and a wrongful influence from Musk.
