Trump Zelensky meeting Oval Office, Letters

The Issue: The meeting between President Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance and Volodymyr Zelensky.

President Trump’s national security adviser said President Volodymyr Zelensky would be welcome back if he was “ready to negotiate in good faith” (“Talk ‘privately’ and aid resumes: veep,” March 5).

Are you kidding? Zelensky rightly pointed out Russia’s history of breaking agreements.

It’s bad diplomacy to be naive about negotiating with Russia. Trump made it clear NATO membership for Ukraine is out, with no security guarantees, yet Zelensky is being blamed for risking World War III?

This situation seems more like a threat from Vladimir Putin to Trump. Zelensky is being made a scapegoat.

After throwing a tantrum on live TV, Zelensky, who had agreed to end the war under Trump’s peace deal, backtracked.

Instead, he ran to the United Kingdom and Europe to collect money in order to continue fighting Russia.

Zelensky seems content to drag out this war further.

Pride comes before the fall. Zelensky should make the deal and save his country.

I’m a staunch Republican and a Trump supporter.

However, I do feel Zelensky was ganged up on and bullied by Trump and Vance.

When fighting a tyrant, peace without victory is no peace at all.

Trump’s belief that he is the exception is as delusional as former President Barack Obama’s belief that he could work with Iran.

Zelensky isn’t risking World War III, Trump’s appeasement is.

America didn’t enter World War II until Pearl Harbor.

With people like Vance calling the shots, we’ll probably wait until we’re nuked before we wake up.

Trump was right to stop weapons shipments to Ukraine (“Zel plea but no apology,” March 5).

Zelensky isn’t dealing with former President Joe Biden anymore.

Biden was happy to give away taxpayers’ money, without due diligence.

Zelensky must accept the peace terms that Trump is negotiating.

Good for Zelensky for calling out Trump and demanding that he make things right and resume weapons shipments.

Unfortunately, Trump, a convicted felon, does not understand right from wrong.

J.D. Vance is equally ignorant.

The Issue: Sean Baker’s film “Anora” winning Best Picture at the 97th Academy Awards.

As a movie buff who has watched every Academy Awards show since 1975, I’m shocked that the Best Picture award went to “Anora,” a film about a stripper giving lap dances (“ ‘Anora’ really ‘Brighton’s up,” March 6).

It was a senseless movie featuring the F-word 479 times, constant screaming and fighting and young women gyrating in strip clubs.

If there was a theme, I missed it entirely — and the acting was nonexistent.

For the Academy to even nominate, let alone award, this film is mind-boggling.

No wonder the industry is in decline.

I just read what the films “Emilia Pérez” and “Anora” are about: sex workers and the cartels.

These movies made it to the Academy Awards? Surely there were better choices.

I had never even heard of them until award season, and I’m a movie buff.

Once again, Hollywood ignored what American audiences actually want.
