President Trump arrived at the Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans shortly before kickoff between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles Sunday evening.
The 47th president — the first ever sitting commander in chief to attend the big game — first met with honorary coin toss participants including family members of victims of the New Orleans New Year’s terrorist attack.
He also spoke with New Orleans police members and emergency personnel at Caesars Superdome ahead of the game.
Trump, who once owned the New Jersey Generals of the now-defunct United States Football League, predicted the Chiefs to become repeat NFL champions as he gave a shout-out to their superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany, who has publicly supported the president.
While no US president has ever attended the Super Bowl while in office, four sitting vice presidents have joined the festivities, including Trump’s former veep Mike Pence.
