WASHINGTON — President Trump announced Thursday that he is directing newly inaugurated Attorney General Pam Bondi to eradicate “anti-Christian bias” in the federal government.
“The mission of this task force will be to immediately halt all forms of anti-Christian targeting and discrimination within the federal government,” Trump told attendees of the National Prayer Breakfast at the Washington Hilton.
The task force, the president went on, will “work to fully prosecute anti-Christian violence and vandalism in our society, and to move heaven and earth to defend the rights of Christians and religious believers nationwide.”
“You’ve never had that before, but this is a very powerful document I’m signing,” Trump added. “You’ve got it. You’ve got it now, first time you’ve had it. If we don’t have religious liberty, that we don’t have a free country. We probably don’t even have a country.”
Under former President Joe Biden, the president charged, the Department of Justice, FBI and IRS had all engaged in anti-Christian discrimination.
Three days after taking office, Trump issued pardons to 23 anti-abortion protesters who had been convicted under a federal law of illegally blocking clinic entrances or otherwise blocking women from getting the procedure.
Trump also said Thursday that he will create a new Presidential Commission on Religious Liberty and will also be establishing a Faith Office in the White House.
“We will protect Christians in our schools, in our military, in our government, in our workplaces, hospitals and in our public squares, and we will bring our country back together as one nation under God with liberty and justice for all,” he vowed.
Trump spoke at length about the need for a revitalization of religion in America and how he believes God saved his life following an assassination attempt at a July 13 campaign rally in Butler, Pa.
“God was watching me,” he said. “Without God, we are isolated and alone. But with God, the Scripture tells us all things are possible.
“Well, look at me. I’m standing before you today. I shouldn’t be here.”
