President Trump knocked James Carville in a post on Friday, after the longtime Democratic strategist appeared on Fox News Thursday night and said the president’s polling numbers were collapsing.
“I won the Presidential Election in a landslide, won ALL SEVEN SWING STATES, THE POPULAR VOTE, AND ALL FIFTY STATES SHIFTED REPUBLICAN, a record, and now I have the best polling numbers I’ve ever had,” Trump wrote in a Friday Truth Social post.
“The Democrats, run by broken down losers like James Carville, whose weak of mind and body, are going crazy, and just don’t know what to do.”
Carville on Thursday night told Sean Hannity that Democrats only lost the 2024 election by a point-and-a-half despite nominating their “seventh-string quarterback,” in former Vice President Kamala Harris, and should not panic.
“I’m telling the Democrats, just sit there, play possum, let him go, let him go, let him go. Poll numbers are declining. The collapse is already underway. Let’s see when they put the Medicaid budget, when they put the tax — the $4.5 billion — trillion dollars of tax cuts to wealthy people. Just let the ball come to you. We don’t need to be aggressive now,” Carville said.
Trump’s approval rating appears to be underwater in the early weeks of his second term, according to CNN poll released this week. It found 47 percent of adults in the U.S. approve of Trump’s moves since returning to the Oval Office a month ago, while 52 percent do not.
Other polls released this week showed a slight dip in his approval rating, from about 50 percent a month ago to 44 percent now, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll published Wednesday.
Carville has also cast criticism toward Democrats since the election, conceding they are struggling to form a united response to Trump’s hurricane of actions in his first weeks in office.
“Bannon is right. We are flooded in s— and we are searching for a way to deal with this. These are extraordinarily difficult times,” Carville said Thursday on the “Politics War Room” podcast, referring to former Trump strategist Steve Bannon, who now hosts a daily conservative broadcast.
Bannon said in 2018, “the way to deal with [the media] is to flood the zone with s—.”
Carville, who steered former President Clinton’s campaign, said Democrats are “getting overwhelmed” and that “things that we thought that would kill a political career, would be poisonous for whatever reason, this guy [Trump] keeps chugging along.”
Trump on Friday said Carville and other Democrats have “lost their mind.”
“They have lost their confidence and spirit – They have lost their minds! We are going to have big WINS for our Country, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN,” he wrote in the Truth Social post.
“It’s already happening, and will get bigger and better than ever before!”
