Calling all innies and outies! The day we’ve been hoping for for the past three years has finally arrived. Dr. Ricken Lazlo Hale’s beloved Severance bible, The You You Are, is available to read. And as anticipated, it slaps. Hard.
That’s right, Severance fans! You no longer have to pray that you’ll find yourself sitting next to Rebec at a book party so you can share her copy. You’ll have a copy of your own — all thanks to the gloriously unhinged minds behind Severance and the folks at Apple TV+. (And Ricken, of course.)
On January 31, presumably in celebration of Ricken’s (Michael Chernus) big Season 2, Episode 3 scene, Apple TV announced that the first eight chapters (or 39 pages) of The You You Are are now available to read exclusively on Apple Books, with more to come. You know what that means? “Your path to self-discovery awaits.”
“Are you ready to meet the people who truly makes you ‘You’: You?” The You You Are‘s publisher description reads. “In his quinquennial tome, Dr. Ricken Lazlo Hale, PhD guides You on a brave journey of self-learnedness. Fertile with mind-engorging insights, The You You Are is an invitation to merge with your true ‘You,’ and expel from your essence the dead-eyed conventionalism that has defined your life since infancy.”
While the first eight chapters of The You You Are is available via ebook on Apple Books, fans can also listen to an audiobook that’s narrated by the man, the myth, the legend, Dr. Hale himself. “In addition, enjoy an exclusive letter of apology from the author himself, addressed to none other than YOU,” the description continues.
The Table of Contents teases a note from the author, a profound introduction, and thoughts everything from destiny to wounds. Dr. Hale explains that while his book was initially meant to release nationwide this week, events beyond his control led to “a brief delay” as he and “several corporate parties” discuss “where and in what form” the book should be released.
Fans have already found what appears to be a fun nod to a Reddit AMA with creator Dan Erickson, so in true Severance fashion, we imagine the pages will be packed with surprises.
Anyone who’s read The Lexington Letter knows that Apple TV+’s companion books — especially those related to Severance — are top-notch. So we have no doubt that the first eight chapters of The You You Are will happily hold fans over and offer overwhelming inspiration until the book’s full release. What are you waiting for?!
