‘The View’: Whoopi Goldberg Says Celebrity Weights Are “None Of Your Business”

Whoopi Goldberg says it’s best to keep your opinion about her body — and anybody else’s — to yourself. During a conversation on this morning’s episode of The View about Glamour magazine’s essay about fans expressing disappointment if their favorite body positive celebrities lose weight, Goldberg said nobody should have an opinion about someone else’s weight loss or gain.

While Joy Behar quipped that the issue really only affects female celebrities (pointing to the non-existent backlash Al Sharpton received when he dropped weight), Sunny Hostin agreed, and also noted the “cult of celebrity” was partially to blame.

“Why look to a complete stranger for inspiration? You don’t know what’s going on in that person’s life,” she said.

After Hostin said celebrities like Selena Gomez could have slimmed down for their own health, Goldberg interjected, “It’s none of your business!”

“Listen, everybody makes their choice in life,” she said. “If I have to be concerned that you are upset with me, you’re thinking, ‘Oh, you and I have a connection.’ You don’t realize there are 10,000 other people who are yelling the same stuff at me.”

Goldberg has been open about her own weight loss on The View. During a March 2024 episode of the show, she disclosed that she took the weight loss drug Mounjaro.

“I will tell you, I weighed almost 300 pounds when I made Till,” she said, referring to the 2022 film she produced and starred in.

Not long after the film debuted, Goldberg criticized a writer who had incorrectly assumed she was wearing a “fat suit” in the movie, saying on The View in 2022, “I don’t really care how you felt about the movie, but you should know that was not a fat suit. That was me … And that was steroids.”

She explained during the March 2024 show that she took the steroids after an illness, and noted that “one of the things that’s helped me drop the weight is … Mounjaro.”

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
