A Texas karate instructor has been arrested for allegedly raping one of his teenage male students in a dojo bathroom, according to local authorities.
William Propper, 30, stands accused of sexually assaulting a student at the Safety American Karate school in Sugar Land, Texas, during a summer camp in 2022 or 2023, according to an affidavit reviewed by People.
The unnamed minor told his mother and investigators that Propper — who had trained the child since 2018 — brought him into a bathroom during the summer camp and allegedly assaulted him.
Propper told the student – who was either 13 or 14 at the time — that he was “mature enough” to ‘“try out sex,” according to the affidavit.
The instructor also told the child that the bathroom incident was a “secret,” investigators say.
The teen did not immediately share the horrid encounter with his family — only recently telling his mother who then contacted the Sugar Land Police Department, People reported.
Propper, a long time instructor, was placed on leave from Safety America Karate, KHOU reports.
“There has been an allegation made against an employee of Safety America resulting in his arrest. THe employee has been placed on leave from Safety America pending the results of an investigation,” the statement to the outlet reads, ending with, “We appreciate your understanding and support during this difficult time.”
Propper was arrested by police on Feb. 1, but freed on a $75,000 bond.
He is scheduled to appear in court on March 17.
