Texans’ Kris Boyd shoves coach after taking penalty vs. Chiefs

No one had a busier opening kickoff — or a worse opening kickoff — in the Texans-Chiefs game than Kris Boyd.

At the onset of the AFC divisional game in Kansas City, the Texans cornerback/special-teams player watched Nikko Remigio take the kick and return it to the Houston 32-yard line before Boyd chased him down from behind.

Boyd did well to make the tackle and force a fumble, for which he immediately began celebrating even as the Chiefs recovered.

A fired-up Boyd raced to his sideline — but before he got there, he popped off his helmet and threw it, drawing a 15-yard, unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that brought the ball to the Houston 13-yard line.

Helmetless, he approached a shouting Frank Ross, the Texans’ special teams coordinator, and gave him a large shove.

It was a chaotic start for the six-year veteran, although his team’s defense lessened the impact by holding the Chiefs to a field goal.
