Teddi Mellencamp is being sued by a former employee for alleged racial discrimination and other claims.
Page Six can confirm that the woman, El Salvador immigrant Julia Umana, filed her lawsuit in Los Angeles on Thursday — the day after Mellencamp underwent emergency brain surgery to have tumors removed.
Umana explained in her filing, which was obtained by TMZ, that she previously worked as a live-in nanny and housekeeper for the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” alum, who allegedly treated her more poorly than any other celebrity boss.
Umana claimed Mellencamp abused her power, created a hostile work environment and engaged in racial discrimination and harassment in addition to working her to the bone and shorting her paychecks.
Umana further alleged Mellencamp treated her worse than other household staffers who were white and that Mellencamp spoke to her in a nasty tone that she never saw Mellencamp use with the white workers.
In fact, Umana claimed Mellencamp even accused her of stealing and committing theft — even though there were cameras in the house — but never did the same to a white, blond employee.
Umana went on to allege that the former Bravolebrity also mocked her for speaking Spanish. (Mellencamp’s estranged husband, Edwin Arroyave, was born in Colombia.)
Umana claimed she finally had enough and told Mellencamp she was going to resign, which allegedly prompted the latter to pressure the former to work three, 12-hour shifts for which she was allegedly paid $325.
When Umana complained about the amount, she was allegedly fired.
According to Umana, she was wrongfully terminated and is owed unpaid wages.
She is seeking more than $2 million in damages.
Reps for Mellencamp did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
The accountability coach — who shares daughter Slate, 12, son Cruz, 10, daughter Dove, 4, and stepdaughter Isabella, 16, with Arroyave — is facing an uphill health battle.
“For the last several weeks I’ve been dealing with severe and debilitating headaches,” she told her Instagram followers Wednesday.
“Yesterday the pain was unbearable and required hospitalization. After a CT scan and MRI, doctors found multiple tumors on my brain, which they believe have been growing for at least 6 months.”
Mellencamp, 43, continued, “Two of the tumors will be surgically removed today – The remaining smaller tumors will be dealt with via radiation at a later date.”
After the operation, Arroyave, 47, told his own Instagram followers, “So many people asking for updates. All I will say right now is surgery went well.”
“That said,” he made sure to note, “I’ve never seen @teddimellencamp in so much pain. She’s finally getting some needed rest.”
Mellencamp was diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma in October 2022, and she’s undergone around 20 surgeries since then.
She filed for divorce from Arroyave in November 2024 after 13 years of marriage; shortly after, Page Six confirmed that Mellencamp’s months-long affair with her married horse trainer led to the split.
