A straphanger was punched and slashed in a shocking random attack on a J train Sunday afternoon in Queens — and cops are still looking for the brute who did it.
The 61-year-old victim was riding on a northbound train at around 3:15 p.m. near the Jamaica Center – Parsons/Archer station when the unidentified assailant walked up, punched him in the face and slashed him on the hand, police said.
The suspect ran off after the unprovoked assault, and authorities brought the victim to NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens in stable condition.
There have been no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing, the NYPD told The Post.
Cops don’t yet know the attacker’s motive and don’t have a description at this point.
The slashing is just the latest example of recent subway violence that’s cursed the Big Apple. Just last week, an unhinged commuter in Manhattan cut an officer with a broken wine bottle, sparking an “all-out dogpile” in which the irate straphanger bit another cop who tried to cuff him.
The suspect in that case, 35-year-old Corinthian Hills, was later charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest and other crimes.
