SNY to stream Mets games on MLB app — here’s how much it costs

Cord-cutting Mets fans will still be able to watch their favorite team this season and beyond.

SNY launched a subscription service in partnership with Major League Baseball, providing a standalone, direct-to-consumer option on the MLB app for those looking to watch the Amazin’s.

Those in the Mets’ market, which includes New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and parts of Pennsylvania, can subscribe for $24.99 for a month, $124.99 a season or $149.99 a year.

Those in the market who currently get SNY through a TV subscription will be able to access games via the MLB app at no extra cost.

The package will not include games broadcast locally on PIX-11 or nationally exclusive matchups.

“The biggest thought is fan friendly, right?” MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said of the new service, according to The Athletic. “As long as that digital product is out there, the fan, whether it’s the best option or not, has an option to get the games and that’s really important.”

The Mets are the 22nd team in baseball that can be watched without a traditional cable package, bringing the league closer to its goal of ending blackouts.

Of the 22 streaming services, SNY is the first regional network to partner with MLB on their service.

“We looked at it with all kinds of different partners,” SNY president Steve Raab said, per The Athletic. “We didn’t think it made a lot of sense to build the platform by ourselves. We thought about the opportunity to bundle with an existing provider who’s got an established platform, who is really able to bring experience, and enhancements maybe that we wouldn’t be able to bring. And then it becomes a question of, who are you working with?

“At the end of the day, for us, we just felt like our interests and baseball’s interests were most aligned. They have a superior product.”

The announcement comes nearly two years after YES Network launched a DTC product that streams Yankees, Nets and Liberty games.
