‘Skeleton Crew’ Ending Explained: Did the Kids Beat Jod Na Nawood?

This is it. Eight episodes of mischief, mystery, and galaxy-galavanting have led to the Skeleton Crew Season 1 finale, in which all of our questions were answered and all of the loose ends tied up.

Originally pitched as a silly, family-friendly adventure show about four kids in the Star Wars universe trying to find their way home after accidentally entering hyperspace, the Disney+ became so much more thanks to some incredibly well-written episodes, jokes and scares, and a sly heel turn by Jod Na Nawood (Jude Law).

Skeleton Crew Episode 8, “The Real Good Guys,” finally provided closure for the four kids, their parents, Jod, and the entire planet of At Attin, which was experiencing a whole lot of chaos without any real explanation as for why their home planet was going all wonky. Meddling kids, that’s why!

**Spoilers ahead for Skeleton Crew Episodes 1-8**

Episode 7, “We’re Gonna Be In So Much Trouble,” shored up Jod’s role as a villain in this story, with the pirate formerly known by way too many names to count threatening Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers), Fern (Kyriana Kratter), Neel (Robert Timothy Smith), and KB (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) by telling them he would kill their parents if they tried to stop them. He even says that it was their parents sending a message out past the barrier that gave him the ability to identify exactly who to kill first if it comes down to it. Dark, dark stuff from Jod, here.

With that said and the fate of At Attin quite literally riding on the shoulders of our protagonists, the kids had a massive job going into the final episode of Season 1. They needed to not only alert their parents to Jod’s true motives but stop him before he helped himself to their planet’s reserves. It’s a lot for kids who have spent the series just trying to make it out alive.

So did the kids finally come together to stop Jod before he could infiltrate At Attin’s vaults? Did Jod finally get what was coming to him after endangering four kids in his protection? And did the children’s parents finally have child protective services called on them for being negligent and dumb? Well, that question may have to wait for Season 2.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Skeleton Crew finale…

Skeleton Crew Ending Explained: Good Always Defeats Bad, That Includes You, Jod.

The end of Episode 7 saw the children safely-ish returned to At Attin and paired back up with their respective families, but under the guise that Jod — posing as an emissary of Republic Emissary — had saved them and helped to bring them home. As mentioned above, Jod told the kids he would kill their parents if they spoke up so it’s a pretty good incentive for them to keep their mouths shut. After a trip down into the Mint, the place where the At Attin’s credits are held, he releases the families to go about their lives, something that the kids are hesitant to do.

From there, Jod expects to be taken to the Supervisor, with Fern and her mom (Kerry Condon) leading the way given her mom’s post in At Attin’s government. Fern, knowing that Jod is a big fat faker but not able to signal this to her mom, must go along with it until she can get a minute to discreetly tell her mother of Jod’s true intentions. Of course, her mom is completely unaware and even takes pride in Fern being so young and getting the chance to meet the distinguished Supervisor of At Attin – could these parents be more oblivious?

While this is happening, the rest of the crew go back to their normal lives as though none of the preceding events have happened, although the kids are riddled with anxiety over Fern’s wellbeing, even trying to quietly communicate about ways to save her.

Fern, now engaged in a full-fledged conversation with her mom, Jod, and the Supervisor — who is actually just… a droid?! — ends up in big trouble when Jod is caught is in his lie by the omniscient Supervisor. The all-knowing entity calls for his robots to seize the pirate, which is when Jod sticks his lightsaber directly into the command center of the droid. His action also shuts down all of At Attin and paves the way for him to bring down the barrier and allow his pirate ship of ruffians to descend upon the shrouded planet to pilfer the Mint and the vaults.

After a struggle and a chase between the pirates and the other three kids (plus Wim’s dad!), Wim and Neel are able to get KB to their old spaceship with the goal of exiting At Attin’s barrier and communicating with the rest of the galaxy. The kids hatch a plan to reach out to Kim — the sweet owl lady who the kids met earlier in the season and who offered assistance should they ever need it — calling on her to send in troops to stop the pirates from plundering At Attin’s vaults.

KB and SM-33 miraculously break through the barrier as Fern, her mom, and Jod watch from the tower, but just as her message is received, Jod’s pirates shoot down KB’s ship, making her friends believe that she died as the ship crashed into the terrain. It would be a truly sad moment if this wasn’t Disney+ and a show for kids and families — there’s no way she would actually die!

Back up at the Supervisor’s lookout, Fern tries to drop the barrier permanently but is nearly shot by Jod, who is committed to keeping the rest of the world out until he gets what he came for. Wim, who has repeatedly shown fear in the face of adversity whereas his friends have shown bravery, moves to destroy the barrier before Jod stops him by making him choose between the barrier and his dad. As any kid would, I suspect, Wim chooses his dad as Jod once again thinks he is smarter than everyone else.

Neel, who is otherwise occupied being a badass on the ground and shooting at Jod’s ship full of pirates, even causing some hefty damage to the ship in the process. Go, Neel! Unfortunately, the ship fires back and sends him running to find the others.

In a moment of pure courageousness, Wim and Fern distract Jod and steal his lightsaber, teaming up and forcing Jod to choose between stopping Wim’s dad from bringing down the barrier and from them slicing into him with his own weapon. This all unfolds as Fern’s mom — who is reluctant to bring down At Attin’s beloved barrier — sits by and watches until she joins Wim’s dad and plunges the lever, pulling down the planet’s main line of defense. In any other situation, this would be bad. But since Kim had indeed called in reinforcements from the New Republic to stop jod, a fleet of spaceships swoop in and quickly put an end to Jod’s plot. The group of unrecognizable pilots (sadly, no Poe or Finn anywhere to be seen) obliterates Jod’s ship, plummeting it down to At Attin as they start their search for pirates.

The final moments of Season 1 see the kids happily discovering KB alive and well — really well as she is laying on a massive pile of credits that could make them all rich — and reuniting with their families after saving the planet and all its inhabitants. A touching end to a sweet and surprisingly wholesome Star Wars series for Disney+.

Listen, we know these kids can do some real damage and probably should not be given the spaceship keys just yet, but is it crazy to say we want to see them get into more trouble with a potential Season 2? Disney+, come through on this one!

All eight episodes of Skeleton Crew Season 1 is currently streaming on Disney+.
