‘Sing Sing’ Comes to Digital, But When Will The Colman Domingo Movie Be Streaming on Max?

Over six months since the movie first opened in theaters, Sing Sing is finally being released on video-on-demand, and will be available to buy on digital platforms. It feels almost like the good ol’ days, when you had to wait to watch a movie at home!

Directed by Greg Kwedar, who also co-wrote the script with Clint Bentley, Sing Sing is based on the true story of a maximum security prison in New York that offers a program for incarcerated individuals to get involved in theater and music. Two of the men featured in the film, Clarence “Divine Eye” Maclin and Jon-Adrian “JJ” Velazquez, are real alumni of the program who play themselves. Colman Domingo stars as the lead, Divine G, an unjustly imprisoned man determined to prove his innocence, who also discovers his talent for theater.

Last week, Sing Sing earned three Academy Award nominations, including a nomination for Best Actor for Domingo. The film has had an unusual roll-out, which release included a re-release in theaters and a streaming release specifically for prisons. Now, the film will be available to buy online. Read on for all the info on where to watch the Sing Sing movie and when we expect to see Sing Sing streaming on Max.

Where to watch the Sing Sing movie

Where to watch the Colman Domingo movie Sing Sing on streaming:

Beginning on Friday, January 31 at 12 a.m. Eastern Time (which is also 9 p.m. Pacific Time on Thursday, January 30 you will be able to buy a digital copy of Sing Sing on platforms like Amazon Prime, VuduApple TV, and more. The price may vary depending on which platform you use to buy the film, but on Amazon, the film cost $24.99 to pre-order a digital copy. Sing Sing will not yet be available to rent online.

Sing Sing is not currently available to stream on any subscription-based services, but the film will eventually be coming to streaming, on Max, thanks to the 2023 deal between A24 and Warner Bros. Discovery, which brings A24’s previous and upcoming theatrical releases to the streaming service Max.

When will Sing Sing be streaming on Max?

The Sing Sing streaming release date on Max has not yet been announced, but we do expect to see Sing Sing on Max eventually, thanks to the streamer’s deal with A24.

The A24 deal is a “Pay-1 deal,” which means A24 movies will start streaming on Max in the “Pay 1 window,” meaning that Max will be the first “TV channel” to pay for the rights to Babygirl, after the film has been released on digital and home media. One recent A24 title, We Live in Time, will begin streaming on Max on February 7— about four months after its release in theaters, and about three months after its release on digital.

Sing Sing had a bit of an unusual release. The film opened in limited theaters on July 12, and was set for a wide release in August. However, that wide release never happened. Earlier this month, the film was re-released in over 500 theaters beginning on January 17—which falls just a little short of the 600 movie theaters required for an official “wide” release.

All that said, because of this unorthodox rollout, it’s hard to predict when Sing Sing will stream on Max. If we go the original theatrical release in July, the movie should have already been on Max. But if we go by the digital release tomorrow, you might see Sing Sing on Max in about three months time—around late April or early May 2025/

This is all speculation. If you want to watch Sing Sing right away, you can buy or rent a digital copy starting tomorrow.
