Rodney Harrison is quelling any concern his now-viral freeze-up on “Sunday Night Football” sparked.
Speaking to MassLive, the two-time Super Bowl champion safety with the Patriots said he was “working on a few hours of sleep” before appearing on NBC’s broadcast of the Commanders-Broncos tilt on Sunday.
“I was exhausted working on a few hours of sleep watching my son play Saturday night. I had 3 hours of sleep on Sunday and had to work all day,” Harrison told the outlet via text Monday. “I was suffering from exhaustion. But I’m good.”
Harrison’s son, Christian, is a safety on the Cincinnati Bearcats, who lost to the TCU Horned Frogs in Fort Worth on Nov. 29.
MassLive reported the elder Harrison traveled from Texas to Maryland for the Week 13 clash at Northwest Stadium.
When Harrison, 52, appeared on the “Sunday Night Football” broadcast before kickoff, he seemed to lose his train of thought when conversing with Tony Dungy and Jac Collinsworth, the latter of whom had inquired about the best way to attack the Commanders’ defense.
“Yeah, I look at…,” Harrison began before looking down at the desk as Collinsworth repeated the question.

“The best way to attack them … It’s a lot of stuff going on, I’m sorry, guys. They don’t have a lot of discipline on the defensive side of the ball. … That’s it … I’m sorry, guys.”
Some viewers expressed concern on social media, with one writing, “Someone should check on that man.”
Harrison, who spent 15 seasons in the NFL before retiring in 2009, appeared on the postgame program.
The Broncos defeated the Commanders in overtime, 27-27, with Denver improving to 10-2 as Washington fell to 3-9.
