A Polish woman who claimed to be Madeleine McCann has been charged with four counts of stalking, The Post has learned.
Julia Wandelt — who also goes by Julia Wendell or Julia Faustyna — was arrested on suspicion of stalking and harassment charges just moments after landing at Bristol Airport in England on Wednesday.
While police did not confirm this, it’s believed that Wandelt’s charges relate to the alleged stalking of Kate and Gerry McCann, the parents of the 3-year-old who vanished on a family vacation in Portugal in 2007.
Wandelt had flown in from Wrocław, Poland, and was due to meet a friend in the UK. Police arrested the 23-year-old and her friend, a 60-year-old woman from Wales.
As of Friday, Wandelt’s friend was released on bail.
“A woman has been charged with stalking offenses following her arrest at Bristol Airport on Wednesday,” a Leicestershire Police spokesperson told The Post.
The force added that two of the four counts relate to offenses between May 2, 2024 and February 15, 2025.
Wandelt was also charged with a further count of stalking between January 3 and April 21, 2024. The fourth count relates to offenses between November 27 and January 29 last year.
She has been remanded in custody to appear at Leicestershire Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
It comes just days after Wandelt alleged that a new set of DNA test results “strongly support” her theory that she is related to the missing girl’s father.
She initially garnered global attention in 2023 after she created the “@IamMadeleineMcCann” Instagram account, where she questioned whether she was Madeleine.
However, her case weakened in April 2023 after a DNA test determined she wasn’t Madeleine.
Instead, the test found she was of Polish, Lithuanian and Romanian heritage, meaning she couldn’t be Madeleine. As a result, she apologized to Kate and Gerry for the ordeal.
Despite the blow, Wandelt returned to Instagram earlier this month with a new account, @amijuliawandelt. In several posts, she shared new DNA results that she claims were submitted to a “world expert” in the field.
While she didn’t name the expert, Wandelt insisted that her DNA matched up to some of the toddler’s key facial features.
She added that genetic evidence “strongly supports that Gerry McCann could be Julia Wandelt’s biological father.”
The McCanns have yet to speak out on Wandelt’s arrest.
