Police suspect man who killed 14-year-old Bronx boy struck earlier

The maniac who fatally stabbed a 14-year-old Bronx boy in an unprovoked incident was also responsible for slashing an innocent bystander in a subway station, police believe.

An image of the cold-blooded killer was obtained from surveillance video and was blasted out to officers who are hunting for the suspect, Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said at a late Friday news conference.

Caleb Rios, 14, was standing on the sidewalk on East 138th Street near Lincoln Avenue in Mott Haven around 9:25 a.m. Friday when the killer plunged a knife into his chest twice, authorities said.

He later died from his injuries at Lincoln Medical Center, cops said.

A Bronx police officer recognized the perp from a Jan. 5 stabbing inside the Third Avenue and 138th Street No. 6 express train station in Mott Haven, during which a 38-year-old man was randomly sliced in the left arm while standing on the steps.

“At this time, we believe the two incidents are connected, and were committed by the same perpetrator,” Kenny said.

Cops have one person of interest in custody but are still asking the public for any information about the suspect in the surveillance footage, who was described as 6-foot-one to six-foot-three with a slim build.
