The Alonsos are “excited” about the season ahead.
Taking to Instagram over the weekend, the wife of Mets first baseman Pete Alonso celebrated the start of his seventh season in the league with a touching Instagram post after he finalized his return to Queens.
“Excited for season 7,” Haley Alonso captioned a snap of the couple taken at Citi Field, where the 30-year-old Alonso has called home for the entirety of his career.
Although there was plenty of offseason doubt as to whether the four-time MLB All-Star would re-sign with the Mets, Alonso’s free agency saga came to an end in early February when he agreed to a two-year, $54 million pact with the club that drafted him in 2016.
Alonso will make $30 million this season. The contract also has a $24 million player option for 2026.
“He makes us a better team,” said David Stearns, the Mets president of baseball operations. “We’re in a spot where we feel like we’ve got a really good team. We’re trying to win as many games as possible.”
The Mets finished the regular season at 89-73 last year before going on an impressive playoff run that culminated with an NLCS berth.
They lost to the eventual World Series champion Dodgers in six games.
The Mets wasted no time retooling their roster, reeling in the biggest fish of the offseason in former Yankees star Juan Soto on a record-breaking 15-year, $765 million contract.
The star outfielder reported to spring training on Sunday while Alonso was seen at the team’s Port St. Lucie, Fla., facility on Monday.
The Mets open the 2025 season with back-to-back series trips against the Astros and Marlins, respectively.
Their home opener against the Blue Jays is set for April 3.
When Alonso makes his season debut at Citi Field, expect Haley to be cheering him on nearby.
The couple, who tied the knot in November 2021, celebrated the Mets’ trip to the NLCS with a kiss on the field in Flushing.
The Mets’ first exhibition game of the spring is set for Saturday against the Astros.
