NewsNation announced a slew of changes to its prime-time lineup on Tuesday.
The cable-news channel has selected host Leland Vittert to preside over the network’s 9 p.m. hour, filling a spot vacated by commentator Dan Abrams, who recently announced plans to end his weeknight show on the channel, though he plans to stay with the network.
Vittert currently hosts a show at 7 p.m., an hour that will now be filled by anchor Elizabeth Vargas, who has signed a new deal with the cable news channel, the outlet said.
Vargas’ show will lead into the nightly program hosted by Chris Cuomo, who also signed a multiyear extension with the network in December.
As part of the changes, the newscast hosted by anchor Connell McShane will be extended from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Vittert will retain Federico Quadrani as executive producer of his program when he takes over the 9 p.m. hour.
“We’re extremely happy to be bringing Leland and Elizabeth to our primetime line-up,” said Michael Corn, NewsNation’s president of programming and specials. “They are extraordinary and experienced journalists who are fearless, smart, and curious. They have travelled the globe to deliver the news, and they have each developed a loyal and growing audience here at NewsNation.”
NewsNation is a cable channel launched in 2021 by local television behemoth Nexstar Media Group, which also owns The Hill.
The channel has been steadily adding to its live programming and political reporting units in recent months, and last year hosted a Republican presidential primary debate.
The changes to NewsNation’s prime-time schedule take effect on Feb. 10.
