Mets’ standoff with Pete Alonso ended with reunion both needed

Common sense won out. What was best for both sides became reality.

And there’s almost no room for complaints.

The Mets are bringing back Pete Alonso on a two-year deal worth $54 million with an opt-out after the season, The Post’s Jon Heyman reported. Alonso chose that deal over a three-year deal worth $71 million, Heyman added, betting on himself to potentially recoup his value with a big year.

This always made the most sense.
