Medicine and other items taken from Gene Hackman’s home after ‘suspicious’ deaths

Authorities seized three types of medications and electronics from the New Mexico home where Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found dead earlier this week.

Per CNN, police confiscated two green cell phones and multiple medicines — including Tylenol, a thyroid medication and Diltiazem, a calcium channel blocker used to treat high blood pressure or chest pain.

They also took a 2025 monthly planner and MyQuest records, a medical diagnostics service, according to the return and inventory section of the search warrant.

Although the “French Connection” actor, 95, and Arakawa, 64, did not show any external trauma, authorities deemed their deaths “suspicious” enough to warrant a full investigation. However, foul play is not suspected.

Maintenance workers found the couple, who wed in 1991, dead in their home on Wednesday afternoon.

While Hackman’s body was discovered near the kitchen, his wife was found lying on the bathroom floor with prescription pills scattered around the countertop.

Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza told “Today” that the spilled medication is “very important evidence” as they try to piece together the timeline of events.

“We’re looking at that specifically and other medications that were possibly in the residence,” he told the outlet Friday. “So that is something of concern.”

The classical pianist was in a state of decomposition, with “bloating in her face and mummification in her hands and feet.”

One of their beloved German Shepherds was discovered deceased about “10 to 15 feet” away from her body, likely in a crate or kennel.

Given the state of their bodies, detectives believe the couple died “several days, possibly even up to a couple of weeks” before being found.

Mendoza noted that it’s “very hard to determine if they both passed at the same time or how close they passed together.”

Although the autopsy and toxicology report will be “key” to the investigation, police are also looking at phone records, missed mail pick-ups and other data to determine the exact time of death.

While the “Unforgiven” star had memory issues, his daughter Leslie Hackman said he was “in very good physical condition.”

“He liked to do Pilates and yoga, and he was continuing to do that several times a week,” she told the Daily Mail on Thursday. “So, he was in good health.”

Although Leslie wasn’t shocked by her dad’s death given his age, she hopes he passed away “peacefully” with “no suffering.”

The family originally suspected that they died from carbon monoxide poisoning, however, the fire department and New Mexico gas company found “no obvious signs of a gas leak.”

Gene shared Leslie, daughter Elizabeth and son Christopher with his first wife, Faye Maltese. The exes were married from 1956 to 1986.
