Mark Consuelos Insists You Can Learn “A Whole New Language” From 20-Year-Olds: “I Lowkey Don’t Know What They’re Talking About”

You can learn a lot from your elders. But according to Mark Consuelos, you can also learn a lot from 20-year-olds.

On Friday’s Live with Kelly and Mark, he and Kelly Ripa talked about the importance of “intergenerational friendships,” which Ripa said “offer countless benefits.”

“We are big fans of intergenerational friendships,” Ripa noted.

Consuelos shared the same sentiment as his wife and co-host, saying that he has both “young friends” and “older friends” — including a 92-year-old man named Julian.

Ripa added, “We have so many friends from different generations, and I think it’s to our great benefit… If we have dinner with our friend group, we always learn something new. We look at something in a different way.”

In fact, Ripa highlighted that she and Consuelos have “learned to claim the good grandparent names when [their] kids have kids.”

“It’s something that would never occur to us, but they’re like, ‘No, you have to have them planned out now. Be ahead of time,’” she explained.

However, Ripa read that “only 37% of adults have close friends with someone from a different generation.”

“I really believe that if you want to learn a lot, have friendships in different generations,” she continued. “Have older friends, have younger friends.”

Following a round of applause, Consuelos chimed in, “And if you want to learn a whole new language completely, right? Hang out with 20-year-olds. I lowkey don’t know what they’re talking about.”

Ripa teased, “That’s cap.”

Consuelos replied, “Nah!”

“We just spoke 20-something in front of all of you,” Ripa quipped.
