For those still-interested parties who weren’t baited and switched from watching Wednesday’s Knicks at Sixers, the view included extended minutes that emitted an odd and old aroma, half sweat and half sweetness.
The Knicks, in their OT win, often chose to play winning basketball, as if that was part of the plan. They scored a lot from inside the 3-point arc, and perhaps as a coordinated effort to take advantage of the on-going absence of Philly center Joel Embiid, another perpetually unhappy NBA star, threw several inside passes that led to inside field goals.
In fact, the Knicks took only 37 3-point shots — roughly 12-15 fewer than the backward modern game produces with overtime extensions. The Knicks, it should be argued, won because they played more and superior, ahem, old-school basketball.
And among those 37 3 attempts, 10 each were taken by OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges, so it seemed mostly a group effort to keep the carpet bombing down.
