Oh, how the tables have turned! After reading how “a recent study found that cheese eaters are less likely to have sleep apnea than their dairy-eschewing counterparts,” Kelly Ripa proposed on Friday’s Live with Kelly and Mark that she and Mark Consuelos “should have cheese before bed every night.”
Consuelos replied, “We should have it by our bed. Next to our bed.”
Ripa, who wasn’t too keen to the idea, shot down Consuelos’ insistence, revealing that he wasn’t always supportive of eating in bed, himself.
“Because that’s eating in the bed,” she explained. “We have, [for] many years, one of us shamed the other one of us for eating in the bed.”
Consuelos asked, “When?”
After Ripa teased that this took place “for the first 28 years of [their] marriage,” Consuelos asked if it was him who “shamed” her, which Ripa confirmed.
“I did? What would you eat in bed?” he inquired.
Ripa replied, “Everything. And you’re like, ‘That’s disgusting. Eating in bed is disgusting.’”
Consuelos quipped, “Are you sure that was me?”
While Ripa once again confirmed that he was in fact the culprit, she called out Consuelos, who she revealed has taken up eating peanut butter and jellies in bed.
“And then it was fine to eat in bed,” she added.
Ripa recalled this transition taking place after Consuelos moved to Vancouver to shoot Riverdale.
“And he lived there for a long time. So the rules in the bed changed,” she shared. “For me, I started allowing the dogs to sleep in bed.”
Consuelos chimed in, “You took my side of the bed, too.”
Ripa continued, “Correct. And then you started, I believe, eating in your own bed in Vancouver, and you came home and brought that habit home with you.”
However, Consuelos shed some light on the situation, clarifying that he “would eat in [his] first bed, which was the couch.”
“I’d call it ‘sleep one,’” he teased. “I’d go to sleep one. I’d have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I’d get drowsy because you know, your sugar spikes, and all that blah, blah, blah. And then I’d fall asleep, and I’d sleep until like two, three o’clock in the morning, wake up from there, and then go to sleep two in my bed. Sleep two. No food in that bed.”
Ripa highlighted that Consuelos “started dragging food into [their] bed” once he got home from Vancouver.
“I guess you figured the dogs were there, what the hell?” she said.
Consuelos piggybacked, “It’s all gone to hell.”
After Ripa and Consuelos pointed out how they have “animals” and “PB & J’s” in their bed, Ripa teased, “Well, now we’re going to have cheese!”
