Karla Sofía Gascón called Selena Gomez a ‘rich rat’ amid Hailey Bieber feud

The Karla Sofía Gascón controversy continues.

The Oscar nominee, who is under fire for offensive tweets that have resurfaced, went after Selena Gomez on X (formerly Twitter) before they starred in “Emilia Perez” together.

According to the Latin Times, Gascón, 52, trashed Gomez, 32, in a since-deleted tweet from Oct. 2022, where she commented on a news story about Gomez and Hailey Bieber taking a photo together at the Annual Academy Museum Gala.

“She’s a rich rat who plays the poor bitch whenever she can and will never stop bothering her ex-boyfriend and his wife,” Gascón reportedly wrote about Gomez.

The Post has reached out to reps for Gascón and Gomez for comment.

At the time of Gascón’s reported tweet, Gomez and Hailey, 28, came together at the Annual Academy Museum Gala to shut down rumors of their alleged feud.

Gomez dated Justin Bieber for eight years before they split for good in 2018. Later that year, Justin, 30, got married to Hailey.

Last year, Gomez, Gascón and Zoe Saldana starred in “Emilia Perez” which is up for a leading 13 nominations at the 2025 Oscars, including Best Actress for Gascón.

However, the musical crime film’s Oscar chances are in jeopardy now due to Gascón’s old tweets.

In the messages from as recently as four years ago, Gascón suggested Islam should be banned, hammered Catholics, and called George Floyd a “drug addict swindler.”

She even went after the Oscars in a 2021 post, writing, “More and more the #Oscars are looking like a ceremony for independent and protest films, I didn’t know if I was watching an Afro-Korean festival, a Black Lives Matter demonstration or the 8M. Apart from that, an ugly, ugly gala.”

Gascón has since deleted her X account.

Following the backlash to her social media posts, Gascón told People in a statement on Jan. 30, “I want to acknowledge the conversation around my past social media posts that have caused hurt. As someone in a marginalized community, I know this suffering all too well and I am deeply sorry to those I have caused pain. All my life I have fought for a better world. I believe light will always triumph over darkness.”

She addressed the controversy again in a lengthy Instagram post on Saturday, where she said her critics are trying to “stain my existence with lies.”

Gascón also appeared to address her alleged tweet about Gomez, writing, “They have created posts as if it were me insulting even my colleagues. Things that I wrote to glorify as if they were criticisms, jokes as if they were reality, words that without the background only seem like hate.”

The actress also insisted that she’s “not a racist” and said she’s “been judged and condemned without trial and without option to explain true intention.”
