Beloved New York news producer Karen Scott died Wednesday after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was 75.
Scott worked for years as the news director at PIX11, and before that was a news producer at WNBC where she worked on an Emmy-winning team.
“She was a pioneer in the field of broadcast journalism rising to top levels in network news,” an obituary for her read.

In addition to an Emmy, Scott’s shows earned “dozens” of other press awards, according to the obit.
“Karen used her platform, staff and on-air talent to promote numerous social causes, charities and human-interest stories in the biggest media market in the world, bringing light into darkness,” it continued.
Friend and former colleague Mary Murphy commemorated Scott as a leader in every newsroom she worked, and particularly recalled how she calmly steered coverage on Sept. 11, 2001 as terror attacks unfolded across the city and in Pennsylvania.
“She gave many people the opportunity to shine,” Murphy wrote in a social media post. “Many of us grieve for Karen tonight.”
Scott was born in Saratoga Springs, New York, and graduated from Ohio State University.
She lived most of her life in New York City, and retired in 2009 as she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
“Karen was a loving daughter, sister, wife, aunt, colleague and friend to all who knew her,” the obituary read.
She is survived by a brother, nephews, and great nieces.
