Joy Behar suggested there’s more to The View than we’ve seen at the Hot Topics table. While the ladies are known to get fired up now and then during some of their more controversial conversations, Behar wondered this morning if they’ve had any Real Housewives-level blowouts.
After watching a clip from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in which Sutton Stracke warns Dorit Kemsley to “pick on somebody else whose wallet fits,” inferring that she has much more money than Kemsley, Behar asked the panel, “My question for the Real Housewives of The View is the following: Is making fun of someone’s financial situation below the belt?”
Unfortunately for her, The View isn’t quite packed with Bravoholics. The only Real Housewives fan on the panel is Alyssa Farah Griffin, who graciously unpacked the details and complexities of Stracke and Kemsley’s feud for her co-hosts.
“What bothered me with this one is, the woman she’s attacking is going through a brutal divorce, and her finances are tied up in it because she was home raising his kids,” Griffin explained. “And by the way, she was someone who tried to pursue businesses at that time. It’s not like she was somebody who didn’t try to make any of her own money, so it was an even lower blow for that.”
She added, “I don’t think you’re friends if you’re even saying that. It’s tacky to even talk about money. To go that low, you’re never coming back in my house.”
Behar, of course, was less interested in the lives of the Beverly Hills ladies and more intrigued by any money-fueled spats around the table. She asked, “Have we ever gone that low? I’ve been here 28 years.”
When Griffin asked her clarify, “With each other or other people?” Behar replied, “Yeah, with each other.”
They all said no, but Behar kept on grilling.
“Not personal, no. But in the past?” she wondered. Her query was met with silence from the panel, but guest host Ariana DeBose turned the quiet few seconds into a comedic bit as she pointedly looked around and raised her eyebrows, earning a round of laughter from the studio audience.
Sara Haines was the only one to warily answer Behar, offering up a “maybe,” and Behar finally dropped it. “Okay…” she said, as the camera panned to DeBose, who was still at it, shadily taking a sip from her View mug. The Oscar-winning actress knows what to do with a prop, that’s for sure.
Behar left us thinking there’s much more to the story than what the ladies (barely) divulged when she closed out the the chat by saying, “I have the right to write a memoir, too,” with a smile.
Needless to say, we’d give anything to get our hands on a copy.
The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
