Jimmy Butler wasted no time sharing some lofty expectations for his new team.
Butler arrived in California on Thursday just one day after being traded to the Warriors, where he told fans that an NBA Finals is on the horizon.
“Ready to win, ready to work, ready to put on a show for y’all,” he said in a post shared on the Warriors’ X account. “Let’s get it. Championship coming soon.”
Butler, 35, was traded from the Heat to Golden State on Wednesday in a blockbuster five-team trade in which the Warriors sent off Andrew Wiggins to Miami.
Upon being traded to the Warriors, Butler declined his 2025-26 player option, signing a two-year extension instead.
Butler’s departure from Miami ultimately ends his season-long feud with Heat ownership, which saw him face suspension from the team three times.
The six-time all star was introduced by the Warriors ahead of their home game against the Lakers on Thursday, where he, alongside general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr., spoke to reporters.
“I’m so happy to be playing basketball again for an organization like this one,” Butler said. “I’m glad to have the opportunity to help and get us to winning, and do something special.”
Butler added, “I will do my best to do what everyone wants and that is to win a championship, I mean it.”
Despite currently sitting outside of playoff contention, Dunleavy believes the Warriors are still contenders.
“This is never an easy time of year when you have to do some of this stuff and make some of these moves,” Dunleavy said. “But we’re in the business of winning and we made an acquisition of a guy sitting next to me who’s one of the best in the league, an elite two-way player and we’re thrilled to have him in the fold.”
Butler also joked about his suspensions in the press conference, but insisted that he has since moved on.
“I don’t got too many bad things to say about them,” Butler said. “I don’t. They gave me opportunity. I felt like I did my job to the highest level. I have so much respect for that organization, for the people that’s running that organization and for my former teammates. And I’m always going to wish them the best. … I’ve got a lot of love for a lot of people over there in that organization.”
Butler is set to make his return to Miami later this season when the Warriors face the Heat on the road March 25.
