JD Vance To Visit Border As Illegal Crossings Plummet To Historic Lows

Vice President JD Vance will visit the United States southern border on Wednesday alongside Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard as illegal border crossings plummet to historic lows.

The trio is set to visit Eagle Pass, Texas, as the Trump administration continues to pursue a “whole of government” approach to address the border crisis and advance deportation efforts. Vance, Hegseth, and Gabbard are expected to tour a federal immigration processing facility.

The pace of illegal border crossings has plummeted to historic lows during the Trump administration, not seen since the 1960s. Data from Border Patrol indicates that about 359 migrants are being processed across the southern border every day, marking a 90 percent drop since the same time last year under the Biden administration.

The border town became the center of controversy during the Biden administration after Texas law enforcement took control of a park that had been used to process and release migrants into the United States.

The Daily Wire visited Eagle Pass during the Biden administration, documenting how the Texas Department of Public Safety apprehended migrants at the park and how illegal border crossings continued at areas along the border controlled by federal authorities.

The visit comes as the Trump administration has pledged to use the “full might” of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Department of Defense (DOD), and the Department of Justice (DOJ) to support the mass deportation effort.

“In 30 days, the president sealed the border shut, declared the cartels to be terrorist organizations, has increased ICE deportations to levels not seen in decades, and we are shortly on the verge of achieving a pace and speed of deportations this country has never before seen,” White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller recently remarked.

The DOD has assisted with deportation flights and is currently preparing the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base to hold up to 30,000 illegal alien detainees, with Trump saying GITMO would be used “to detain the worst criminal illegal aliens threatening the American people.”
