PROVIDENCE, R.I. — If you’re old enough to remember the spring of 1985, then there are three realities you have no doubt felt in these opening hours of the spring of 2025:
1. “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” was the defining song of the 1980s. No matter what part of that tune you hit when you’re surfing the radio dial, it immediately transports you to the middle of that decade. Even if you don’t want it to.
2. Nothing has ever been more thrilling at a movie theater than standing in line to watch “Back to the Future.” My memory says it was a 25-minute wait to get into the old multiplex at Roosevelt Field. Maybe it was shorter than that. But it could’ve been longer.
3. Sports sure does feel awfully familiar.
