Warning: You may not be able to sleep after watching The Monkey, a new Stephen King horror movie opening in theaters this weekend. Especially if you’ve ever had a toy monkey at any point in your life.
Written and directed by Osgood Perkins, and based on the 1980 short story by Stephen King of the same name, The Monkey follows two twin brothers who discover their father’s vintage—and very creepy—toy monkey in their attic. Shortly after, they begin witnessing horrifying deaths. They part ways as they grow, and try to leave the trauma behind them… but you can’t outrun the past.
Theo James stars as both twin brothers, and the supporting cast includes Tatiana Maslany, Christian Convery, Colin O’Brien, Rohan Campbell, Sarah Levy, Adam Scott, and Elijah Wood. Apparently, Hollywood has not run out of Stephen King stories to adapt yet, and I hope they never do.
Here’s what to know about how to watch The Monkey movie, and when we expect to see The Monkey on streaming.
Where to watch the new Stephen King movie The Monkey:
The Monkey will only available to watch in a movie theater, when it opens in the U.S. in theaters on Friday, February 21. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. The Monkey is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.
Is The Monkey movie streaming on Netflix or Amazon Prime Video?
The Monkey is not streaming on Netflix and likely will not be on Netflix any time soon, due to the fact that the film is a Neon release, and most Neon movies stream on Hulu, not Netflix, thanks to the Neon and Hulu output deal. The Monkey will be available to buy or rent on Amazon Prime after the movie is released on digital, but it will not be available to stream for free with a Prime subscription any time soon, because it is not a Prime original.
If you want to watch The Monkey movie at home, you’ll have to wait for the film to be available to buy or rent on digital platforms, or wait for it to stream on Hulu.
When will The Monkey be streaming free on Hulu?
Unless the final stage of the Disney+ and Hulu merger finally happens, you’ll likely see The Monkey streaming on Hulu sometime in the next six months. Another Neon movie, Cuckoo, began streaming on Hulu a little over four months after it opened in theaters. If The Monkey follows a similar release pattern, you may see The Monkey on Hulu around late June 2025. On the other hand, another Neon release, It Lives Inside, began streaming on Hulu just three months after opening in theaters—so it’s not a hard and fast rule.
This is all speculation. If you want to watch The Monkey right away, you can catch the movie in theaters.
