Is A24’s ‘Parthenope’ Streaming On Netflix or HBO Max?

As winter rages on, now is the perfect time to escape to the Italian coast via a screening of Parthenope, the new Paolo Sorrentino movie that is coming to U.S. theaters this weekend. Of course, just because the weather and scenery is beautiful doesn’t mean the lives are perfect.

Written and directed by Sorrentino—the acclaimed Italian filmmaker known for Il Divo, The Great Beauty, and The Hand of God, among others—Parthenope tells the story of a beautiful young woman (played by Celeste Dalla Porta) who lives in Naples, recounting her childhood and flitting through her life in a gorgeous city. She meets many people, including the real-life alcoholic author John Cheever (played by Gary Oldman). Other supporting cast members include Stefania Sandrelli, Silvio Orlando, Luisa Ranieri, Peppe Lanzetta and Isabella Ferrari.

What the movie lacks in plot it makes up for in breathtaking imagery. If you want take a trip to Naples without paying for the flight, this is the way to do it. Here’s what to know about where to watch Parthenope, and when we expect to see Parthenope on streaming.

Is the Parthenope movie streaming on Netflix?

Parthenope is not streaming on Netflix and likely will not be on Netflix in the U.S. any time soon, due to the fact that the film is an A24 release, and the 2023 deal between A24 and Warner Bros. Discovery, brings all A24’s previous and upcoming theatrical releases to the Warner Bros. streaming service Max. (Formerly known as HBO Max.)

That said, if you live in Italy, you like will be able to watch Parthenope streaming on Netflix very soon, thanks to a deal bewteen the film’s Italian film distributor, PiperFilm, and Netflix Italy. Netflix Italy will have the first post-theatrical window to stream all upcoming PiperFilm titles, including Parthenope.

But again, that’s only for Netflix Itay. If you live in the U.S. and want to watch Parthenope on streaming, you’ll have to wait for the film to be available to buy or rent on digital platforms, or wait for it to stream on Max.

When will Parthenope be streaming on HBO’s Max?

Parthenope is not yet streaming on Max. Right now, the movie is only in theaters. That said, we do expect to see Parthenope streaming on Max eventually—thanks to the A24 and Warner Bros. deal—but we’re not sure when.

The A24 deal is a “Pay-1 deal,” which means A24 movies will start streaming on Max in the “Pay 1 window,” meaning that Max will be the first “TV channel” to pay for the rights to Parthenope, after the film has been released on digital and home media. One recent A24 title, We Live in Time, is coming to Max tomorrow—about four months after its release in theaters, and about two-and-a-half months after its release on digital.

If Parthenope follows a similar release strategy, you’ll see Parthenope on digital around late March 2025, and streaming on Max around June 2025.

This is all speculation. The A24 digital and streaming releases have varied by title. If you want to watch Parthenope right away, you can catch the movie in select U.S. theaters.
