LOS ANGELES — When he burst onto the scene two years ago, Hudson Fasching looked destined to be part of the succession plan on the Islanders fourth line, his straight-line, forechecking game fitting like a glove.
Now, Fasching is trying to deliver a reminder that he can still be a factor for the Islanders, whether it be in the present as they try to mount a playoff push or in the future as the franchise looks to undergo change this summer.
“That’s definitely part of it,” Fasching, who sat out most of January and February with an upper-body injury, told The Post on Saturday. “It’s been an odd year for me, 100 percent. I still have the ability to contribute to this team and help. I think I just try to show that as best as I can every night. Just try to find a way to help the team continuously.”
After the Brock Nelson trade, Fasching — who has played the past five games headed into Monday’s road trip finale against the Kings — will likely have a much more stable spot in the lineup, as the Islanders don’t have many options at forward.
