New Jets general manager Darren Mougey did not reveal much a few weeks ago at the NFL Scouting Combine when asked about the team’s approach to free agency.
“We will have a plan,” Mougey said. “I don’t know how active or measured it will be, but we’ll have a good plan.”
That plan will be put in play starting Monday at noon when the league’s negotiating window for free agents opens. Teams and player agents can begin discussing contracts then, and deals will come together quickly.
By the time teams are actually allowed to sign free agents on Wednesday at 4 p.m., most of the top free agents already will have deals.
