How astrology predicted and reflects this week’s volcano eruptions

Holy hell fire, there’s been not one, not two, but three volcanoes actively shaking and scorching the Earth this week.

Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano began shooting lava on Tuesday morning, following the fire of Italy’s Mount Etna, which began erupting on Monday. Meanwhile, the island of Santorini is bracing for maximum magma as the region has suffered a swarm of earthquakes in recent days.

How do the stars figure into the shaking soil and the volcanic spew?

I’m so glad you asked.

The astrology of this week’s volcanic eruptions

The Kilauea volcano’s eruption coincided with the moon’s move into the fiery, flashy sign of Leo. AP

For astrology believers, the sky is a mirror of the Earth, and celestial hijinks and happenings are reflected in the natural world and in the dynamics of human nature.

On February 10, the day the latest rash of eruptions began, the moon entered Leo, a fixed fire sign associated with outbursts, over-the-top gestures and pageantry of every kind.

The moon in Leo and the sun in Aquarius are both forming a tense AF square with Uranus, our planet of sudden change, shock and awe, and unruly events.

When two luminaries square one another, there’s bound to be friction, and because the planets in question all fall in fixed signs, the effect is amplified.

Uranus is currently side-spinning in the blessed bull dirt of Taurus, suggesting a destabilizing (Uranus) influence on the earth itself (Taurus) with the added emotionality and fireworks of Leo.

Full moons are about culmination and release, they intensify emotions and illuminate and often blow the damn roof off what can no longer be ignored or endured.

Add to the magma that in numerology, 2025 is a 9, a number associated with Mars, the red-hot warlord of drive, desire, and eruptions of the sexual and volcanic kind.

Further, Mars, our planet of action, is currently retrograde in Cancer, the sign of buried resentments and internalized anger. Without a healthy pathway for expression, the fire of Mars oft leads to explosive episodes.

As a point of reference, “Real Housewives of New Jersey” hothead Teresa Giudice was born with Mars in Cancer.

Mars typically tells us in an instant that we’re “all systems go,” but when retrograde is in a water sign, the message is “hold back and hold it in,” an accumulated aggro energy that is born to build to an extreme and ultimately eruptive degree.

Astrologer Vickie Miller says that this sudden surge, which we see both in natural disasters and our emotional terrain, is but a preview of what will shape and shift us in the coming months.

“We have eclipse season in March, and I see the eclipse is already starting.”

She notes that the number 9 is synonymous with endings and the Year of the Snake encourages us all to shed the dead and step bare and brave into the unclear future.

“This is like major, massive energy on steroids to get s – – t out of your life.”

Miller encourages everyone to make like the magma and burn burn burn, specifically, their personal list of patterns and people they are hoping to release.

“This means you’re going to propel, you’re gonna open up to new opportunities, new experiences. We will continue to see this new energy of eclipse through the world. We’re gonna hear shocking truths. But this is gonna be the time of really getting in deep, cleansing away everything that doesn’t serve us and elevating into this higher awakening and conscious time.”

Just as lava burns what was and creates new pathways and fertile earth for what may yet be, so too can we. It might take a while for the ground to cool and the smoke to clear, but we will all, ultimately, be fortified by the fire
