Gotham FC defenders Tierna Davidson and Emily Sonnett have once again been picked to represent the red, white and blue.
Davidson and Sonnett were among the 23 players named Tuesday to the U.S. Women’s National Team for the 2025 SheBelieves Cup.
The USWNT, which has won five straight SheBelieves Cups, will open play Feb. 20 against Columbia at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston.
Sonnett, a seven-time SheBelieves Cup champion, is set to be honored before the match after she became the 45th player to make 100 career appearances for the USWNT during an Oct. 24 match against Iceland.
Sonnett is also the only U.S. player to have played in every SheBelieves Cup tournament since it started in 2016.
Meanwhile, this will be Davidson’s seventh SheBelieves Cup appearance.
The upcoming tournament will also mark a reunion on the pitch of sorts for Davidson, Sonnett and former Gotham players Crystal Dunn and Yazmeen Ryan.
Gotham and Dunn announced their “mutually agreed” split two weeks ago following her lone season with the team. Dunn has since signed with Paris Saint-Germain.
Meanwhile, Gotham traded Ryan in late December to the Houston Dash, and the two-time NWSL champion recently signed a three-year contract extension with her new team.
The USWNT roster includes 12 players from the 22-player team that won gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics, but only four players who started at least five games in the tournament.
This will also be the first SheBelieves Cup for 10 USWNT players.
“This team is still growing, and I continue to be impressed with the dedication of our player pool to get better, individually and as a group,” USWNT head coach Emma Hayes said in a statement. “With many players at the beginning of their club preseasons, we’ll be patient with them but at the same time, we’re going to maximize the time we have together.”
After opening the tournament in Houston, the USWNT will travel to Glendale, Ariz., to face Australia on Feb. 23.
The U.S. will close the tournament in San Diego on Feb. 26 against Japan.
Hayes noted that each team the U.S. is scheduled to face have different styles and will be a “great test.”
Hayes also said she’s excited for more players to get opportunities to play in tough games.
“We have put in a lot of thought on how best to accomplish that while continuing to evolve and putting out a team that can win,” Hayes said. “So, every game should be a lot of fun for the staff, the players and the fans.”
