Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, made their final public sighting nearly one year before being found dead in their New Mexico home.

On March 28, 2024, the couple were photographed enjoying a dinner date in Santa Fe.

They ate at Pappadeaux’s Seafood Kitchen at the time, with the legendary actor holding onto his partner’s arm with one hand and a cane with the other.

The two-time Oscar winner wore a plaid shirt beneath a gray vest, as well as khaki pants and a baseball cap.

Arakawa, for her part, sported a patterned top, jeans and brown boots.

The outing marked the pair’s first in 21 years as they had last been seen together attending the 2003 Golden Globes as Hackman was presented with the Cecil B. DeMille Award.

On Wednesday, news broke that the duo — and their dog — had died in their Santa Fe residence.

The county’s sheriff, Adan Mendoza, explained to the Santa Fe New Mexican that while no foul play is suspected in their passing, a cause of death has yet to be determined.

He said the investigation into Hackman and Arakawa’s deaths is “active and ongoing.”
