After airing for two seasons on Paramount+, the Frasier revival will not continue on the platform, as reported by Variety. CBS Studios plans to shop the series, which premiered in October 2023, to other networks and streaming services.
Led by and executive produced by Kelsey Grammer, the revival revisits the beloved sitcom Frasier, itself a spinoff of Cheers. The original show ran for 11 seasons, from 1993 to 2004, and earned a remarkable 37 Primetime Emmy Awards. While the revival didn’t win any awards during its first season, it did secure three nominations.
Despite CBS Studios producing the show, it’s unlikely the revival will move to CBS. The network already boasts a robust comedy lineup, including The Neighborhood, Poppa’s House, George & Mandy’s First Marriage, Ghosts, and a newly announced spinoff of The Neighborhood, which is currently in development. Meanwhile, NBC, which aired the original series, could potentially explore reviving its iconic Must-See TV comedy block, as it currently features shows like Lopez vs Lopez, Happy’s Place, Night Court, and St. Denis Medical.
In a 2023 interview with Variety, Grammer shared his vision for the revival, saying he wanted “a new and ‘sillier’ version of the famous sitcom” and expressed hope for a long run: “There’s enough groundwork laid between these human beings; they are wonderful characters. I want to see where they go. And I want to see what happens to Frasier.”
Alongside Grammer, the cast includes Jack Cutmore-Scott, Nicholas Lyndhurst, Toks Olagundoye, Jess Salgueiro, and Anders Keith. Joe Cristalli and Chris Harris helm the series as showrunners, with Tom Russo and Jordan McMahon serving as executive producers. Renowned director James Burrows, known for his work on the original series, returned to direct several episodes of the revival.
The show is produced by CBS Studios and Grammnet NH Productions, with Paramount Global Content Distribution handling international markets outside of Paramount+. Both the original Frasier series and the first two seasons of the revival are currently available for streaming on Paramount+.
