The lefty freakout over DOGE inquiries into federal spending continues — despite (or maybe because of?) the fact that DOGE’s work is beyond justified: Just look at FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Per a recent Inspector General audit, FEMA during COVID handed over $9.6 billion in a grant for medical aid to a single state — and it still hasn’t actually figured out if $8.1 billion of that was kosher under grant rules.
Worse, $1.5 billion that $9.6 billion was overkill, more than the state actually spent.
A shocking $1.1 billion of that $1.5 billion overdo was backed up “by one sheet of paper with no itemized costs and was not prepared by a licensed Professional Engineer or cost-estimating professional,” per the IG.
The overall $9.6 billion grant accounted for almost 14% of the $69 billion FEMA had earmarked for COVID-19 medical aid nationwide through the end of 2023.
So we have nearly $10 billion dollars of taxpayer money, splashed around with no care for need or accountability?
Elon’s not hitting these people hard enough.
Yes, the squeals from the left around FEMA and every other DOGE effort are couched in terms of worry over the alleged harm any cuts will do.
But really they’re just the cries of anxious little porkers worried the swill trough’s about to go dry.
And that they won’t have a powerful tool of political terror at their disposal any longer.
Remember that a FEMA muckamuck ordered its employees not to hand out any emergency supplies to Trump supporters in Florida after Hurricane Milton.
The muckamuck in question, Marn’i Washington, was canned — and then went public and blew the whistle, saying the practice was widespread.
Former agency head Deanne Criswell denied this was the case, of course, and the lapdog media screamed it was misinformation.
But how likely is it that Washington was the only FEMA manager doing this?
America’s governing class has for the best part of a decade behaved as if the people it’s supposed to answer to are no better than peons, deserving of severe punishment if they ever dare question their masters.
What’s happening now is a necessary — and salutary — shock.
